BSR & UKSSA statement
British Skateboard Racing (BSR)
We are pleased to announce the formation of British Skateboard Racing (BSR), a rider-led body for Downhill, Slalom and Street Luge, built by and for the athletes.
BSR has grown out of UKSSA (UK Slalom Skateboard Association) to bring the different disciplines of skateboard racing together, recognising what we share and coordinating the practical things that help the sport grow: shared standards, safety guidance, recognised events, rankings, and clear processes for representing the UK at international competitions. Above all, BSR exists to strengthen the racing community, protecting what already exists, providing support and structure, and helping the next generation of riders find a pathway into the sport.
BSR will work closely with riders, organisers, venues and partner organisations, with a focus on helping:
new riders get involved
experienced racers access the support they deserve
organisers benefit from clearer structure and shared standards
World Skate Games selection and verification
BSR is built around the experience and input of the racing community, ensuring that athlete selection and development are shaped by those actively involved in the sport.
As part of this launch, UKSSA’s role in Slalom athlete selection and verification for World Skate Games will transfer to BSR, who will follow existing UKSSA and ISSA standards. Responsibility for submitting athlete selections in Downhill and Street Luge will also transfer to BSR, working in partnership with SkateboardGB’s designated athlete selection official for these disciplines. Through this process, BSR will submit all selected athletes for verification.
Bringing athlete selection for all skateboard racing disciplines into a single body will help ensure a more transparent, consistent and streamlined process.
The aim is simple: to provide a clear and credible pathway to international competition, shaped by the racing community and delivered through transparent criteria and timelines.
What happens next
Over the coming months, BSR will publish a range of resources and guidance to support riders, organisers and events, including information on standards, rankings and international representation.
Updates will be shared as this work develops, along with ways for the community to get involved and contribute.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or feel you can help, please do get in touch via the BSR contact form.
